Released 12/10/2026

Moonfrost is a pixel-art sim RPG game from Oxalis Games. Set in a world devastated by mysterious meteor storms, you’ll play as a Frost Hunter, trying to rebuild a shattered village and uncover the truth behind the appearance of a second moon.

The game combines farming, crafting, fishing, cooking, home building and relationships with a deeper fantasy storyline. It is played gently, at your own pace. You can design your home wall by wall, restore damaged buildings, create homes for villagers and develop friendships that can potentially become romantic relationships.

Unlike a purely peaceful farming game, Moonfrost also includes dangerous temples to explore and a wider mystery involving your character’s forgotten past.

Key Features

Rebuild a broken world

The world has been devastated by meteor storms known as Frostfalls. As a Frost Hunter, you use the mysterious substance left behind to help restore the village, repair buildings and bring life back to the surrounding area. Rebuilding is a central part of the game, giving you a visible sense of progress as the settlement develops.

Design and decorate your own home

Moonfrost offers a detailed building mode that lets you construct and decorate your home wall by wall. You can create anything from a small cottage to a larger fantasy-inspired home, using furniture and decorations you craft or unlock. You can also design homes for other villagers, giving the building system a broader role in shaping the community.

Farm, fish, cook and gather resources

The everyday activities familiar to farming and life-simulation games are all here. Grow crops, fish, cook meals and gather materials to support your progress. These activities provide a gentler counterpoint to the game’s more adventurous elements.

Make friends and develop relationships

Meet a cast of villagers with their own personalities, histories and problems. Build friendships, learn more about their lives and explore potential romantic relationships as you progress. The characters are also tied to the wider story, so getting to know them is part of understanding the world.

Explore dangerous temples

Beyond village life, Moonfrost features temples containing hazards and enemies. Exploring these areas offers a change of pace from farming and building, with rewards and progression tied to your Frost Hunter abilities. This means the game blends life simulation with fantasy RPG and dungeon-exploration elements.

Discover the mystery of the Second Moon

A second moon appeared in the sky a century before the game begins, followed by catastrophic meteor storms. As you rebuild the world and investigate your own forgotten past, you’ll uncover more about the Moonfrost phenomenon and its consequences. The narrative gives the familiar farming and crafting activities a larger purpose.

Enjoy a detailed pixel-art world

Moonfrost uses an isometric perspective and hand-crafted pixel art, with dynamic lighting, weather and wildlife. Its visual style combines a cosy presentation with a world that has been damaged by disaster.

Final Thoughts

Moonfrost brings together several appealing parts of the life-simulation genre, particularly detailed home building, farming, village restoration and relationships. The ability to design homes wall by wall gives it a creative element, while the damaged world and mystery of the Second Moon provide a reason to keep progressing.

Its temples and RPG elements also distinguish it from games focused solely on farming and social activities.

I have played hours on the demo of Moonfrost a pixel-art sim RPG game and am excited to play the early release which is out today, 12th October. I’ll be updating this review when I have played more.

A little housekeeping: this site is just for fun and games (literally). No payment, no sponsorships, no affiliate links (though you might spot a Steam link, purely because I’m helpful like that). Sometimes I am gifted a game, demo, or playtest spot, and I’ll always flag it when that’s the case. But gifted or not, I only write about games I genuinely enjoyed. If it’s not for me, it just quietly doesn’t get a post. No negativity here, only good vibes and recommendations. One last thing: prices, features, and availability can shift after I post, so it’s always worth to double-check before you buy.
